Project Description

Higher education in the past decade has become increasingly international. More and more students choose to study abroad or to do an international work placement. This has revealed a new need for students to get more and better guidance and support before, during and after their international experience. Virtual mobility, enabled by the use of educational technologies, and e-coaching methodologies, therefore are becoming popular as a complement to the traditional mobility programmes in order to prepare, support and follow-up students who go physically abroad for a placement or study experience.

Move-IT “Seminars Promoting Virtual Support for Mobile Students” wanted to maximise the impact of physical mobility by raising awareness of and share knowledge about the benefits of virtual and blended mobility. Through the Move-IT project website, and by organising seminars and other events, the project enabled the exchange of outcomes and results from former projects in order to disseminate the most innovative initiatives and best practices to potential users thereby stimulating the implementation of virtual mobility in mainstream education.

The project resulted in the following outcomes:

  • 2 face-to-face seminars on blended mobility
  • 2 webinars on e-coaching
  • Move-IT “Home & Away Forum – Coaching exchange students from a distance”
  • Forum proceedings
  • A portal on blended mobility: http://move-it.europace.org
  • Translated summaries in French, German and Spanish of the VM-BASE manual

The Move-IT project ran from 1 November 2009 until 31 December 2010 and was funded with support of the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme, Erasmus, Accompanying Measures.
